John is a full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, a member of the STEP Northern Ireland committee and of the STEP Mental Capacity Special Interest Group. STEP is a worldwide organisation comprised of the most experienced and senior practitioners in the field of trusts and estates. Amongst its aims are to advance knowledge and learning in respect of trusts, estates and allied subjects.

He is member of the MENCAP and the National Autistic Society panels of solicitors, and is regularly requested to address MENCAP and other charitable and support groups throughout Northern Ireland. He is particularly asked to assist on the need to make wills containing special trusts to ensure the welfare and maintenance of those with a learning disability when their primary carers, usually their parents, are no longer there to do so. John has a Master’s degree in Educational and Developmental Psychology and has a particular interest in this type of legal work.

He has extensive training and experience in property law (domestic, commercial and agricultural) and business matters, including partnerships. He also acts as solicitor for Lord Lurgan’s Estate.
